BID OR BUY NOW: www.ebay.com/itm/111919932448

1. Judging has concluded, and I have been notified that this sculpture is the FIRST PLACE WINNER of the griffin contest (fav.me/d8m4o4g) hosted by :iconmyths-and-legends: ! I am so excited! Praise the Lord! I'm so humbled and grateful to everyone who voted for this entry.

2. Now that the contest is concluded and winners have been chosen, I am auctioning off this sculpture (yes, the actual, original, handmade, 3-dimensional, hold-in-your-hand, sculpted piece of art seen from different angles in this photo collage--not a mere print of these photos) on Ebay. So if you want to make this OOAK piece of art your very own, please get in your bid ASAP.

:ebay:  Please follow this Ebay Icon link: www.ebay.com/itm/111919932448

There, you can also see a few photos of the gryphon sitting in my hand to get an idea of its relative size, so if you want to see how small this sculpture is, I suggest you go check out the photos of it on Ebay.

3. And thanks ever so much to :iconduelingartistsden: for requesting this piece to show in their group gallery. It's an honour to be asked!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is my official (2nd) submission for the griffin contest (fav.me/d8m4o4g) hosted by :iconmyths-and-legends:
This is what I really wanted to make for their current contest: a sculpture of a drawing I made of a half red-shouldered macaw, half sand-cat. The original drawing was quick and easy, but turning it into a 3-dimensional creature was a huge and lengthy challenge, mostly due to the various details I forced myself to include. Normally I hate detail work (I'm trained in traditional animation--details are the enemy and to be avoided as much as possible, 'cause nobody wants to draw the same unnecessary detail on a character 5 hundred thousand times, but I digress), but I'm trying to train myself to do details anyway (do hard things!) and do them to the best of my ability. I finished sculpting this today, May 9th, 2015... hopefully just barely in time to enter the contest!
Everything visible on this sculpture--except for the eyes--is made entirely of coloured polymer clay. Absolutely no paint was used in the creation of this piece! Inside, there's a little bit of an armature made of wire and floral tape, and the eyes are onyx beads. Like most of my sculptures, it's also a relatively small piece of art. This gryphon stands under 2&1/2" tall, its wingspan is approximately 3", and its length from beak to tail is approximately 4".
And giving credit where credit is due, thanks to :iconmagweno: for the tip (via an amazing and thorough tutorial: fav.me/d38jnod) about using floral tape inside of a sculpture to get the clay to adhere to its armature (since clay just slips right off the wire and doesn't grip it). Anyway, it also worked great for getting a reliable shape for my gryphon's wings.
Soli Deo Gloria!
